Sakura Matsuri is a major event on Cowra’s tourism calendar, celebrating the birth of spring. It attracts performers from across Australia and around the world. Locals, Australian and International visitors alike have the opportunity to experience traditional elements of Japanese culture. Sakura at the Cowra Japanese Garden is celebrated annually in September when the cherry blossoms are at their peak. The cherry blossoms usually continue to flower up until Mid October.

The main event of the festival, Sakura Matsuri Family Day at the Japanese Garden will be held from 10-4pm Saturday 22nd  September with activities ranging from Traditional Tea Ceremony, Bonsai demonstrations, wood block printing, Shibori demonstrations, food stalls and so much more!

A martial arts stage will hold demonstrations of Karate, Sumo Wrestling, and Aikido whilst the Cultural Stage includes performances from Soprano Misako Piper, Taiko Drummers, Sydney Soran Dance Troup, Sydney Sakura Choir, Torsion Youth Choreographic Ensemble and The String Family Quartet.

Tickets for the festival are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, $15 children or a family pass $60 and are available on the day.

Cowra will be hosting their second Pitch Fork Bush Tucker, entertainment and camping event, with even more on offer for the whole family, bush tucker cooking competitions and tasting, hours of live entertainment and plenty of activities to keep your kids going all day. The Henry Lawson Festival is an annual event held in Grenfell, NSW on the June long weekend. Grenfell is the birthplace of Henry Lawson, one of Australia’s best loved poets and writer of short stories.

Cowra Collectors Fair


19-20 May

The annual collectors’ fair is to be held over 2 days featuring antique and vintage items – bottles of all descriptions, china, glass, kitchenalia, garagenalia, tools and lots more – hundreds of displays and sales stalls.

Exhibitors and sellers are not only local to Cowra but from all around NSW and Victoria, some from Queensland and the occasional visitor from WA.

An Eisteddfod is a competition for those participating in and learning the performing arts. The Cowra Eisteddfod has been running each year since 1954. In 2018 the Eisteddfod will run from Wednesday May 15th culminating in a grand concert on Friday June 8th!

The Cowra Eisteddfod caters for all those interested in the performing arts, from children to adults, with sections for soloists, duo/trios and groups in Vocal, Instrumental, Speech & Drama and Dance. Offering thousands in prize money. In 2017 the Eisteddfod had a total cash prize value around $50,000 including scholarships!
